Christina Oiticica is featured in the international travel publication AirGuide, which spotlights When the Sky Falls on the Earth as a cultural highlight on the shores of Lake Maggiore. Organized by ART for The World and curated by Adelina von Fürstenberg, with scenography by architect Marcelo Mendonça, the exhibition opened on 12 September 2026 at the Grand Hôtel Majestic in Pallanza–Verbania, Italy.
AirGuide highlights Christina’s distinctive approach to Land Art, in which nature, time and environmental conditions become active elements in the creation of the work. Her pieces are exposed to, buried in or placed within different environments, letting natural forces shape their final appearance. The exhibition gathers around 40 drawings and paintings exploring spirituality, nature and cultural exchange, reflecting the artist’s ties between Brazil, Angola and Europe.
At the heart of the show is Mama Muxima, immersed in Lake Maggiore on 5 June 2026 near Isola San Giovanni Borromeo and left underwater for around three months. Water, currents, light and microorganisms transformed the originally figurative painting into something close to abstraction — a result that could not have been fully anticipated. Born from a dream and carrying connections to Brazil, Angola and spirituality, the work was then retrieved and placed at the centre of the exhibition, in the very landscape that reshaped it.
